Can you eat healthy on vacation?

Many people ask me how I stay so consistent with my healthy habits but it’s just it - it’s a habit. It has become so ingrained into myself that it’s like an automatic process that follows me wherever I go.

When you do something consistently it becomes second nature, just like watching Netflix or eating potato chips.

But I know it can be challenging when those around you are not on the same page or maybe even judging you, or when you are not at home and you have to navigate a new environment.

As I have had quite a bit of experience traveling, I wanted to share some tips that have helped me and my clients:

Communicate

Sharing with others what you are doing & why you are doing it - makes a tremendous difference. The latter cannot be skipped. Many people won’t take you seriously at first which is why sharing your why will help them understand you better and they will be less likely to give you a hard time. When people are aware that you don’t eat gluten or you avoid processed foods it won’t come as a shock or inconvenience because they are already aware.

Prep and plan

Yes, you need to be prepared especially if you are the only one following a healthy lifestyle. Prepping and planning is the key to sticking to a healthy lifestyle.

I love to prep a batch of energy bites & bring along snacks and foods like hummus, fruit, nut butter packs, rice cakes, healthy protein bars, legumes, chickpea or brown rice pasta, and raw nuts and seeds - depending on where I am traveling.

Always have some food prepared in advance especially for those hangry moments!

Own it

If you have committed to your health and happiness - own it. It’s not your job to convince others to understand you or follow your lead - it’s your job to lead yourself and yourself only. You should be proud of taking care of yourself - it is the best thing you will ever do - so do it unapologetically.

I encourage you to ask yourself a few questions about those surrounding you:

  • Who actually matters?

  • Are you afraid of people’s judgments and opinions of you for taking care of your health?

  • Who are these people you are worried about?

Those who actually love you unconditionally will celebrate the fact that you are taking care of yourself - pay attention to those who judge you - it is saying more about them than it is about you. Most people’s opinions we are so afraid of are actually strangers…. So remember who are you doing this for?

Let go

Life happens. Meals won’t be perfect, you’ll miss a workout, you’ll eat something you normally wouldn’t…

This is why I am so adamant about prepping in advance to support yourself as much as possible. I always bring my whole food concentrates which provide 33 varieties of fruits and veggies in a capsule so I know for sure my body is getting whole food nutrients guaranteed no matter what happens. Digestive enzymes are another must-have while traveling to support my digestion and minimize inflammation, especially if I eat something with gluten or dairy!

However the more we stress about what isn’t going to plan the more we raise stress hormones which raises blood sugar and creates more damage. So control what you can and let go of the rest, life is meant to be enjoyed ❤︎
